mark bittman: ice pops

these look amazingly delicious and a like great summer treat, especially if you don’t have an ice cream machine. i love the idea of experimenting with crazy flavor combinations.

i want to find some of that shape pop molds. i have round ones, but they don’t look as retro. nor are they as big…. has anyone seen these being sold somewhere?

omg you guys, this is one of the tastiest.

i don’t know what got into me, but i didn’t take pictures along the way. so you know what that means? you just need to make it yourself to see how it goes.

oh, and you’ll die it’s so good.

sure, it took two days… and a borrowed pot… and CELERY. but, you know what, i’d do it again in a heartbeat.

(update: i should mention that those are pan-grilled polenta cakes in the background. we used a tube of trader joe’s pre-made polenta, sliced it about an inch thick, and browned the circles in a little oil in the cast iron pan.)

lest you think mcdonald’s ever does anything well, mark bittman – in his new column after the minimalist – explains why you should not be deceived.

this is a fascinating read and serves as a great argument for why restaurants like mcdonald’s should include nutritional information on their menus. because even if you were trying to make a good decision here, you might not be able to.
