fruit scones

In breakfast on February 4, 2015 at 1:42 am

following our brilliant trip to london, i was on quite a scone kick – or as the brits have it, “scawn.”

i wanted to share a taste of the trip with my colleagues, so i brought in a tea basket – scones, raspberry jam and lemon curd hand-carried from harrods, clotted cream and bags of the queen’s jubilee tea mix.

these scones were delicious, but in my mind, more of a biscuit than a scone.

what i really wanted were the cakey, puffy, pale-on-the-sides-browned-on-the-top version we had at brown’s, filled with currants (order “fruit scawns”).

fortunately, my dearest friends at atk came through, as always.

(yes, i bake the remnants from between the circles so i have something to snack on/taste test)

of course, you’d be looked at like a crazy american tourist if you asked for them at breakfast in the UK, but as far as i’m concerned, they’re a top-notch way to start the day.
