old fashioned, my way

when i visit my mom, we like to pick a “signature cocktail” for the weekend.

this variation on a classic old fashioned was perfect for sipping by the fire.

i started by plumping up some dried cherries in booze. mix them with a little kirsch or orange liquor (or water if you’re desperate), cover in plastic wrap, and microwave for a bit.

to make the drink, put a small spoonful of sugar and three dashes of angostura bitters in a glass with a splash of water or club soda. mix well.

then add half an orange slice and a heaping spoonful of cherries. muddle well.

then add three ice cubes and about a shot and a half of bourbon.

garnish with more boozy cherries if you’d like. they may be the best part of the drink!
